Friday
Oct. 13th at Sherbrooke
McGill 17, Sherbrooke 12
It was truly 'un nuit sur rue elm' for the Redmen this past friday the 13th, as the team received one of their biggest scares this season from a gritty Sherbrooke side. A few weeks ago, the Marlets had a freak loss to Laval, breaking a 100ish game winning streak, and it seemed for the first sixty minutes that the men would be following suit.
Sherbrooke somehow managed to score two unanswered tries, even though the Redmen came knocking on the tryline several times. Finally, late in the second half, with Sean threatening to bring paintball guns to practice, a series of winger breaks allowed the Redmen to pull ahead and wrestle the win away from an inspired Sherbrooke side. Chris Horwood (who also added the lone conversion), Matt Legate, and Darius Chehrzad each touched down in the corners as the Redmen managed to break out of the paralysed shock of being behind for so long.
The club team was stood up for their seconds game, and ended up playing a brief intersquad game of seven's. Fortunately, McGill took the lead early in this one and managed to maintain it throughout. What energy the club side did not expend on the field was exploited in a round of binge drinking by the younger players. Multiple walks of shame ensued.
