Sunday
Oct. 29th vs. Sherbrooke
McGill 44, Sherbrooke 0
Its that time of the year when McGill finally decides to get serious about their rugby. Sunday, October 29th. QSSF Semifinals. Forecast: Low of 0. Light flurries. Domination. After almost giving up a game to Sherbrooke a few weeks ago, the Vert et Or must have had high hopes of reaching their first QSSF finals. But when the clock struck 1 and the first ball was brought down by the McGill forward pack, their Cinderella story ended abruptly.
The first half was a little messy in the backs for McGill, but the relentless attacks of the forward pack and the boot of winger Chris H&O Horwood were enough to create a commanding 22-0 lead. Everyone was making their tackles, and throughout the game McGill managed to win the majority of Sherbrooke's line outs and scrums, thanks to jumpers Alex Hart and Giome, and the hooking of Jordan Ross. Caleb Baloc and Giome both powered in for hard earned tries.
The backs finally smoothed out the kinks and came out flying in the second half. Kyle Buckley scored twice in the corner, Rupert Common broke the line and more than a few tackles to score a great 30 yard try up the middle, and Adrian Thorogood turned down spinning the ball out wide on a 4 on 1 and instead went to the horse races from his own forty, breaking the line and freezing the fullback to score one of the six Redmen tries.
Concordia will face a more focused McGill team next Sunday. The teams are one and one on the season and we are in for an interesting final. Allez Redmen.
