Sunday September 24th vs Bishops

McGill 15, Bishops 0

McGill Club 29, Bishops Seconds 20

Every year, Bishops manages to give us a battle on their home pitch. Maybe its the air, maybe its their obnoxious fans, maybe its the only game the Bishops players don't get drunk the night before, but the Gaiters played the full eighty minutes with an intensity unmatched by any other opponent this season. But elegance and composure sustained the Redmen and rewarded them with a hard-earned 15-0 win.
The majority of the game was played in the Redmen half as Bishops bashed on a stalwart Redmen defense. On several occasions, Bishops managed to come close to or cross the try line, only to be held up or pushed out of bounds. Their successful wide back play and peeling lineouts bent but did not break the Redmen defensive line. Despite having to deal with devasting insults from the Bishops fans such as "you look like an elf in your scrumcap" Matt De Graff kicked for five points and had several great breaks throught the Gaiter's backline. Great supporting runs by Bryce "VP jersey" Tommasen and Frank Hewitt, allowed fullback Adrian Thorogood to sweep in for a counter-attack try just before the half. Kyle Buckely also overcame harassment from drunken Bishop's fans and dipseydoodled the entire length of the field to put the nail in the coffin with the second try of the game. The rest of the highlights were defensive, as flankers Alex Sebastian and Jordan Ross and wingers Darius Chehrzad and Matt Legate put their heads through multiple hardrunning Gaitors in what turned out to a well-fought but punishing game.
The club side also earned a solid 29-20 win. An update on this game will be added soon. Matt Griffin left it all on the field (and by all, I mean part of his ear) in the hard earned win.
On the social side, McGill had the chance to show off their hot and new tracksuits at a local Lennoxville Bar. And all the rookies that puked on their new tracksuit, you should be ashamed.
All said, although Steve Irwin may be dead, there is still a team out there who can still wrangle a croc into submission.
