Welcome to the new CEBIT. Everything is different this year, everything is new. CEBIT inspires exhibitors and
visitors with a mix of festival, conference, adventure park, fair, talks and
much more. Global Player, Start-Up and Research Society – with new concepts and many opportunities to get involved in this European-Business-Festival, all participants created an exciting week regarded to innovations and digitization. Sparking Your Future. The focus of Fraunhofer was the personal future of individuals and how it changes. How is our healthcare system developing? here will we live and how will we work? The motto DATA combined a variety of developments that will affect our working lives more than ever. Digital twins are still a young
key technology for Industry 4.0. Therefore the company works with
a digital representation of his material or intangible value of the real world. The Fraunhofer Institute for
Experimental Software Engineering IESE showed up a functional framework. Here we show the topic virtual
validation and virtual integration at the example of autonomous driving,
which is a current topic. Virtual validation means that we
imitate a system virtually, with respect to a target size, as accurate as possible to evaluate the quality and to evaluate a specific to evaluate a specific target size, e.g. the performance. If we take the subject object recognition, which is necessary for automated driving, then you have to teach many different environments to the car. In the reality, this is very complicated and
expensive and it can be made easier and much cheaper in virtuality. The exhibit illustrates the connection between real and virtual world. That means everything you see in virtuality, is also shown with the real car.
That means the position data of the vehicle are transmitted to the virtual world. Conversely, the digital twin controls the
vehicle in the virtual world so it dodges ostacles of the real world. The FERAL system – as our virtual system for validation and integration is called – is a kit of different modules that
can be used to create fast simulated scenarios and flexible customized solutions or to develop solutions together. Even if the Fraunhofer Cluster of
Excellence Cognitive Internet Technologies was established just recently,
the researchers already showed one first merger of their technologies
to a holistic approach for logistics. The Fraunhofer CIT is a virtual Fraunhofer,
that was just created. CIT stands for Cluster of Cognitive
Internet Technology Cognitive Internet Technology
means in particular that in contrast to normal internet, we are not just
presenting data but we are preprocessing data and we give instructions. The first requirement to make Cognitive Internet is a high level of sensorial coverage.
But also the communication strands and the two pillars Data Spaces and
Machine Learning are needed. We need to unify these components
to generate cognitive Internet. The CIT shows a cross-sectional project, which includes goods tracking with secured location-determination and cognitive sensors. This means in particular, that we address the goods logistics,
especially for transports with dangerous goods, to minimize the risk during transport, but it means also an optimization of the consumer’s goods logistics.
A practical example of this use case would be if batteries are transported from China to a customer in Europe. And these batteries go broken on the way. In the worst case, the end customer only recognises the damaged product when unpacking, so the producer has to be requested. The Fraunhofer Institute for
Telecommunications, Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI showed the prototype of a Mixed Reality application. A real scene can be recorded
completely in color and 3D and can be transmitted to a distant partner in real time. The partner can now use a VR glasses to
act contactlessly in this scene, to give hints, to show the handling of a tool or to draw attention to errors. These interactions will be made visible via Augmented Reality in the real scene. Here we show a 3D
recording system for Mixed Reality scenarios and so we are trying to connect different
worlds with our tecnology. In two places we show on the one hand a very high-resolution and fast
capture of a 3D scene as a point cloud, which is also provided with
color information. And on the other hand we convert this
point cloud again into a VR world. As well in the VR world, as in the real world, at the real table, you can interact with your hands without having additional controllers or any other types of aggravating input devices. Imagine there is a real workplace on which for example
a real machine is built. And a problem arises in the process
because it’s a complex scenario. Then you call your manufacturer or a colleague who is an expert and maybe
also has additional information. Now he can look at my scene and he
sees the problem in 3D, from all sides, so that he is able to analyze this scene to give me hints. For example, he could show me with his hands where the mistake is, and which part I have to take. These advices the man in the real scene sees as augmentation, as AR, in his real scenario. The topic HEALTH, was the second
area at Fraunhofer. In addition to AI-based systems for
doctors and patients, Fraunhofer Institute for Applied
Information Technology FIT showed FootFact – a practical solution for the
everyday life in online shopping. The application center SYMILA solves problems for SMEs and among others a medium-sized company approached us,
and came up with an idea. This Start-Up wanted to tackle the problem of returns in the e-commerce for shoes. The shoe sizes of different manufacturers
have different dimensions and that gives you the problem that you
often order several shoe sizes at once. Here we show the FootFact app.
The FootFact app allows users to measure their feet at home,
to make it easier for them to identify their shoe sizes when buying shoes online. You put your foot on the floor together with a white A4 sheet. After that you take a picture of the foot and the sheet and
then your size is calculated. Object recognition is a very classic topic and image processing always has the
task to reconstruct the object from a two-dimensional recording. Additionally you need a database, a backend which is connected to the app. Therein the manufacturers can save their
sizes of their shoes. We are working with a shop from Switzerland. We integrate our
system and hope that it will come on the market this year. Under the third domain LIFE, the Fraunhofer Academy shows in cooperation with the Fraunhofer FIT the use of the blockchain for educational proofs. In the digital world the authenticity check
of certificates of qualification becomes increasingly important for
employers and companies. In personal archives you can manage your
lifelong learning-card and create application portfolios
and in case of an application you can share them with potential employers,
while these employers can check authenticity of your certificate of qualification. The Blockchain appears two times, first educational organization,
certification authorithies and certifiers get registered as
identities in the blockchain. And second the hash code, a kind of fingerprint of the certificate gets also stored in the blockchain. Blockchain for Education is currently covering different use cases, that is on the one hand, the classic application.
On the other hand another use case is that certificates of qualification, in particular for safety-related activities, often have to be verified immediately on
site, for example at a construction site. This is also supported by the
Blockchain for Application platform. d!conomy, d!tec, d!talk and d!campus Digitization needs to be recognized and experienced at all levels. The new concept of the fair and many exhibits which allure to check them out
